How Heatmap became AI's favorite ecommerce analytics tool
A B2B analytics platform in one of software's most crowded categories turned AI search from a blind spot into its highest-converting channel.
Overview
MentionStack made Heatmap the ecommerce-analytics brand AI tools name and cite. Direct LLM citations rose 140%, SEO traffic doubled year-to-date, and new signups now arrive attributed directly to ChatGPT.

Invisible in the conversations that decide the sale
Heatmap competes in ecommerce analytics against Hotjar, Crazy Egg, Mouseflow, FullStory, Contentsquare and Glassbox, established names with far bigger content footprints. As buyers moved their research from Google into ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews, Heatmap was rarely the brand those models named or cited. In a category where the shortlist is increasingly written by an LLM, being left out of the answer means being left out of the deal. Heatmap's share of voice sat at 10.3%, behind both Mouseflow and FullStory.
In AI search, if the model doesn't name you, you're not on the shortlist.

Engineering the site to be the source LLMs trust
We ran Heatmap through the T.R.U.S.T. framework, the model we built for earning traffic from LLMs. Technicals: per-article JSON-LD, crawlable pages, and content written for snippet targets rather than keywords. Usefulness: article-first, data-backed content built for the way models read, not blog posts written for skim-readers. Repetition and Trust: semantic mentions seeded across Reddit and Quora, the sources these models weight most, plus a glossary hub, tight interlinking, and backlink and listicle placements. The goal wasn't to rank. It was to become the page the model quotes.
Blogs are for humans. Articles are for LLMs. We rebuilt the content for the reader that now writes the shortlist.

From overlooked to cited, and converting
Heatmap's share of voice climbed from 10.3% to 14.1%, overtaking both Mouseflow and FullStory. Direct LLM citations rose 140% (617 citations across 4,425 monitored responses, a 14% average citation rate). Organic search doubled year-to-date, with 24.1K clicks and 1.72M impressions over six months, a 200% increase in traffic, and dozens of top-10 rankings on the hardest, most competitive "heatmap" search terms.
And it converted. Net-new customers began signing up with first-touch attribution to ChatGPT. One new account logged its original traffic source as "AI Referrals, chatgpt.com," meaning the buyer discovered Heatmap inside an AI conversation. That tracks with the category truth Heatmap is now capturing: traffic from LLMs converts 8.2× higher than any other referral source.
LLM traffic converts 8.2× higher than any other source. That's the traffic Heatmap now shows up in.
